Whenever you consume, it breaks down the sugars and starches from food and converted into glucose. The body uses insulin from the body to convert that glucose into energy. Glucose is the most essential fuel for the body. If the body does not generate insulin then it may develop diabetes. This can happens if your body’s cells ignore insulin. When glucose starts building up in the blood instead of going into cells, then you can have diabetes complications.

diabetes fatigue, diabetes weakness, diabetes neuropathyThere are four types of diabetic neuropathy. A person may have just one type or symptoms of several types. It develops so gradually, that you may not notice problems until it show some damages which occurs. The signs and symptoms of diabetic neuropathy can vary, according the type of neuropathy and which nerves are affected.

Peripheral neuropathy is the most common form of diabetic neuropathy. In this, feet and legs are affected first, than by your hands and arms. Signs and symptoms of peripheral neuropathy includes numbness in your feet and toes, a tingling or burning feeling, pain while walking, muscle weakness and difficulty in walking, serious foot problems, and  they are  ulcers, infections, deformities, and bone and joint pain.

Autonomic neuropathy is the autonomic nervous system which controls the heart, lungs, bladder, stomach, intestines, eyes and sex organs. Diabetes can affect the nerves in any of these areas, possibly causing, a lack of awareness that blood sugar levels are low, bladder problems, including frequent urinary tract infections or urinary incontinence, uncontrolled diarrhea or a combination of the two, leading to nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite, difficulty in swallowing, erectile dysfunction in men, vaginal dry and other sexual problem in women, increased or decreased sweating.

Radiculoplexus neuropathy, instead of affecting the nerves, which is like firstly, peripheral neuropathy, secondly, radiculoplexus neuropathy which affects nerves in thighs, hips, buttocks or legs. Also called diabetic amyotrophy, and lastly, femoral neuropathy or proximal neuropathy and this condition is more common in people with two type of diabetes and older adults. Symptoms are mostly on one side of the body, though it is possible for some of the symptoms to be spread.

Mononeuropathy involves damage to a specific nerve. Mononeuropathy, which may also be called focal neuropathy, which comes often or suddenly. It’s mostly common in adults. Although mononeuropathy can cause severe pain, it usually doesn’t cause any long term problems. Symptoms usually vanish  and disappear on their own over a few weeks or months. Symptoms may depend on which nerve is involved and may affect your eyes, double vision or aching behind one eye etc.

Prolonged exposure to high blood sugar glucose can damage delicate nerve fibers which cause diabetic neuropathy. There is a combination of factors likely plays a role, which is the complex interaction between nerves and blood vessels. High blood glucose interferes with the nerves to transmit the signals. It also weakens the walls of the small blood vessels capillaries that supply the nerves with oxygen and nutrients. There are many other factors that may contribute to diabetic neuropathy include inflammation in the nerves caused by an autoimmune response. This occurs when your immune system is been attacked by a foreign organism. Genetic factors unrelated to diabetes that make some people more susceptible to nerve damage. Smoking and alcohol abuse, which damage both nerves and blood vessels and significantly increase the risk of infections.
